In that despatch, I have to inform you, in reply, that HM. Govt see no reason to question the propriety of that Expenditure, and that the necessary Instructions have been given for its admission in the accounts of the Colony.

In compliance with the resolution passed by His Excellency the Governor in Council on 17th Ultimo, conveyed to us in your letter N.65 of 9th Instant, we formed ourselves into a Committee for the purpose of inquiring into the amount of compensation to be paid to the Land-holders in the Wongneichung and Sookunpoo Valleys who are to be compelled to abandon the cultivation of rice.
